Back to News

Autumn is officially here, and October is just a few days away. Though this sadly means the end of summer, there is still a lot to look forward to in the coming month, from family-friendly holidays, Cornwall, in half term to family events around the county!

Here is what is happening in Cornwall this October:

North Cornwall Book Festival, St Endellion, 5-8 October

The North Cornwall Book Festival runs from October 5-8 located close to Port Isaac in the lovely village of St Endellion. Several guests are appearing for talks this year, including popular children’s author Michael Morpurgo. During the day there are delicious food and drink stalls, and workshops designed for both children and adults to take part in. In the evenings there are concerts and talks to entertain, making the festival a great place for a day out.

Mid-Century and Vintage Festival, Newquay, 7-8 October

The Mid-Century and Vintage Festival is back by popular demand, featuring vintage cars, mid-century and retro furniture stalls, live music and dancing. You can wander around the stalls, browsing the wonderful selection of antiques, vintage fashion and collectables. Held in the Bedruthan Hotel, the local area is fun to explore too. There will be food and drink available throughout the day, with a pop-up tea room serving cakes and cream teas.

Tate St Ives Reopen, St Ives, 14 October

The new Tate St Ives opens on Saturday 14th October with a new gallery and spaces for exhibitions, after undergoing a transformation and refurbishment. The new exhibition spaces allow visitors to better engage with the art and allows for bigger artworks to be displayed. The first exhibition will be by Rebecca Warren, the British sculptor. It will be her first solo UK show, and it will be a fantastic exhibition to check out, along with the other art and sculptures at Tate St Ives.

Fal River Autumn Festival, Falmouth, 19-29 October

Falling over October half-term, this Festival is a great way to celebrate the autumn in Cornwall and explore the area. The woodland surrounding River Fal is gorgeous in the autumn as the trees have turned to golden hues and reds. There are several events taking place as part of the Festival, including guided walks. Taking place near our cottages, you can then head back to the resort for a delicious meal at our Café Azur!

Roald Dahl’s Halloweden, St Austell, 21-29 October

One of the biggest events happening during half term is Roald Dahl’s Halloweden, taking place at the Eden Project. The special event will delight adults and children – everyone who has ever read any of Dahl’s books! There will be appearances from the most terrible villains from the books. The ice rink at the project will also be open for the family to enjoy, and the Little Monsters’ Ball Halloween Disco on October 28th.
