There is always something happening in Cornwall, especially in the summer months. Read on to see what fantastic events are happening in June – hopefully, some coincide with your stay!

Bug and Butterfly Quest at Paradise Park

25th May to 2nd June

Over the summer half term holiday, at Paradise Park visitors can learn more about insect life. Around the park, there will be questions to learn about butterflies, bugs and other creepy crawlies. An event catered for children, there is a chocolate prize when they finish the quest.

2019 Azores and Back Race

1st June

Head down to Falmouth on the 1st June to see the start of the Azores and Back Race. There are 50 yachts and several nationalities competing for the best starting position of the 12th running of the event, which takes place every four years. The Azores race is one of the biggest ocean yacht races in the world and sees family teams and big names taking part in the adventure. It will be amazing to see the 30 to 40 feet yachts set off on the 1250 miles to the Azores, an archipelago off the coast of Portugal. There is no prize money, but the race is supporting Plastic Free Falmouth, Surfers Against Sewage and Turn to Starboard charities.

Kalmynji: An Exhibition of Sculptures

2nd to 16th June

Head to the gardens of The Lodge in Fletchersbridge in Bodmin. The three-acre garden will have a selection of sculptures and artworks donated for the exhibition, from distinguished artists in the South West. The garden itself is something to enjoy too, with specimen trees and water features dotted around. Entry is £5.

Royal Cornwall Show

6th to 8th June

For three days every year, the Wadebridge showground hosts the Royal Cornwall Show. An event for the whole family, there is food, entertainment, flowers, animals and rural life. The event is one of the biggest in Cornwall’s calendar and was first held in 1793. The main ring has show jumping, demonstrations of country sports, and in marquees, you’ll find goats, dog shows, a steam fair and much more. Aim to arrive early to make the most of the show, and enjoy browsing the trade stalls and sampling local food and drink.

Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival

14th to 16th June

The Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival is one of Falmouth’s most popular summer events. The festival aims to keep alive the history of Tall Ships and the maritime past of the town. There will be sea shanties performed, songs of the sea along with Cornish songs. The festival raises money for the RNLI. The Shanty Festival also takes place alongside the Falmouth Classics Regatta, and the combination of both events makes Falmouth the place to be over that weekend. The event is welcoming to families, and make sure to enjoy the performances on Custom House Quay and in Events Square.

Golowan Festival

21st to 30th June

Golowan was a midsummer festival, where bonfires were lit on the surrounding hills and was revived in 1991. The Golowan Festival in Penzance is a colourful community festival in the South West and embraces tradition with contemporary images. There is music, theatre, fireworks, parades and more over the course of the week. The Quay Fair is one not to miss, with several stalls selling local arts, crafts and food. A highlight of the festival is the Mazey Day (29th June) when Penzance is decked in greenery and locals dress up in colourful costumes to parade through the town.

Heart Food Festival

22nd to 23rd June

The newest food festival to come to Cornwall, the Heart Food Festival takes place in Heartlands, Pool and there is a wide range of street food stalls to try out! There will also bars serving alcoholic and soft drinks, along with live music on the main stage. Being a food festival, you don’t want to miss out seeing chef demonstrations where you can pick up some cooking tricks and discover new recipes from around the world. You will also be able to pick up some specialised food at the Food Market to take home. The event is family friendly too, and there will be an adventure playground for children. Entry is £3 for adults.

Mevagissey Feast Week

23rd to 29th June

The Mevagissey Feast Week festival is thought to be the longest surviving in Cornwall. Throughout the week, there are exhibitions, live music, demonstrations and lots of food to try, with a focus on fish and seafood. There will be entertainment for younger visitors, boat races, a fete and parades before finishing with a firework display. There will be activities to do every day of the festival, from crab catching to pavement art, most of which are free of charge.
