1. Chyreen Fruit Farm, Truro
Specialising in outdoor fruit, Chyreen Fruit Farm is a small farm in Truro with a popular farm shop plus the opportunity to pick your own fruit. From mid-June to late July, you can pick gooseberries, redcurrants and blackcurrants, then head into the farm shop for lots of other freshly picked goodies.
The shop sells a great selection of produce, including homemade jams, asparagus, strawberries and Cornish rapeseed oil – check the farm’s roadside board to see which seasonal fruit and veg are in stock each day.
For added convenience, you can even order fresh produce over the phone, pick in the evening and purchase frozen berries. Remember to bring your own container and ring first to check if pick your own (PYO) services are available.
2. Mitchell Fruit Garden, Newquay
Centrally located in Mitchell, Newquay, this fruit garden offers the chance to pick your own fruit and veg from June to September.
You can pick strawberries, raspberries, courgettes, redcurrants, gooseberries and more throughout the season. Check the website to see what will be available for PYO when you arrive.
The laid back vibe means you’re welcome to pick as much or as little fruit as you want – there’s no need to bring your own containers with you. Inside, you’ll find ready-picked strawberries and delicious local clotted cream to buy – perfect for scones once you’re finished.
3. Trevathan Farm, Port Isaac
With lots to keep everyone entertained for hours, Trevathan Farm is a great day out for the whole family. Once you’ve picked your fruit – including strawberries, gooseberries and blackcurrants – there are plenty of other things to do.
Children will enjoy the many delights of a working farm, including feeding the animals, collecting eggs and a tractor ride.
After lunch in the farm restaurant and a potter around the farm shop, it’s off to the children’s playground, games room, outdoor tennis courts or rainbow trout fishing in the farm’s fishing lake (rods and lines are provided).
4. Trevaskis Farm, Hayle
If you’re a foodie, you’ll adore the numerous ways to savour all the fresh produce available at Trevaskis Farm. Across its 28 acres, Trevaskis Farm is home to over 80 different types of fruit and vegetables, meaning the array of options for fruit picking is huge.
Check the website to see what’s currently in season – it could be anything from strawberries to runner beans, sweetcorn, apples and lots more.
On-site, there’s also an award-winning farm shop filled with its own bakery, butchery, fish counter, deli and convenience store. Don’t miss local specialities such as home-reared British lop pork, Cornish beers and Cornish cheeses.
Once you’ve finished, enjoy a delicious meal at the farmhouse restaurant renowned for its tasty dishes packed with fresh farm produce served up in generous portions.
