Cornwall has won the coveted Best UK Holiday Destination award at the British Travel Awards 2016, making this the eighth year running that the region has received the accolade.
It first won the award back in 2009 and has held onto the title ever since, making this year’s win all the more impressive. Cornwall’s victory was announced at an awards ceremony in London, where more than a thousand people from across the travel industry came to recognise the best of the best.
The British Travel Awards are decided completely by public vote, and so winning one is testament that Cornwall provides a great visitor experience. Cornwall managed to outshine several other popular regions to gain the vast majority of the public vote.
Malcolm Bell, Visit Cornwall’s Chief Executive, accepted the award and said: “Well done Cornwall! To be named as the nation’s favourite holiday destination for eight years is a truly incredible achievement.
“Each and every person involved in tourism in Cornwall should be proud of this award. It represents strength in our product, brand and future and is a powerful message to be able to shout across the world.
“Thank you to everyone that has contributed to Cornwall’s success and of course, to those who voted.”
Cornwall’s success at the event didn’t just end with one event, however, as Bude won the Best UK Coastal Resort award for the second year running. The region also cleaned up in the Best UK Leisure Attraction category, which the Lost Gardens of Heligan won, with the Eden Project also taking a Silver Award.
