A picturesque hamlet on the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall has been transformed into a Welsh village for the filming of a new Tim Burton movie based on the novel Miss Peregrines’ Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. The film is due to be released in March 2016 and features Eva Green, Samuel L Jackson, Rupert Everett, Judi Dench and Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) plus other famous names.
The quiet hamlet of Portholland has been augmented by four houses, a fully functioning pub, a fake village shop and post office and a graveyard by the sea for the purposes of filming which is set to run for several weeks.
It seems that Tim Burton has taken a bit of a fancy to Cornwall, having filmed scenes of Alice in Wonderland in historic Charlestown and at picture-perfect Antony House, and rumour has it that Portholland won’t be the only Cornish location used in this new film – perhaps we can tempt the cast to come and sample our luxury holiday accommodation in Cornwall here at The Valley while they are filming?
